Instruction

Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning.

Maya Angelou

Private Classes

Our focus will be on understanding the building blocks of breaking down copy, learning how to “mean what you say”, exploring your range, differentiating between a conversational and announcer read, specifying where you fit in the marketplace, mastering the cold read, self-directing, giving a competitive read that books the job, and understanding how to create a demo that fully represents you.

No two voice actors are the same and our focus will be spent on making your read personal, believable and competitive.

Private classes are taught either via Zoom or FaceTime. (In non-covid times, classes can be taught in person.)

Group Classes & Seminars

Group classes are held via Zoom and are limited in size (to ten people), so that each student has a chance to work on copy, either individually or in a coupled or group read.

These classes are geared towards the beginning or intermediate student, and allows the participants to work off of and with each other.

Seminars are also held via Zoom and are larger in size, allowing for a bigger audience, as well as those only wishing to observe. This is a great way to get acquainted with voiceover, to introduce students to coaching and to have basic questions answered and addressed.

Audition Coaching

No matter how much training or experience a voice actor has or how comfortable they may feel in class, it is often the case that when the actual audition comes around and the perceived pressure is on, it’s not always that easy to deliver!

Audition coaching allows you to be coached for a specific audition, helping you to turn in your best read. Sessions run from twenty minutes to a half an hour in length.

Sara has an uncanny ability to listen to what you are doing, pinpoint the weakness and throw you just the right direction to draw you into a truer read. She can do this because she knows how it feels to do it right, and has a gift for being able to express that in terms other actors can understand. She is a great teacher.

In her numerous educational workshops for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Sara Krieger has effortlessly led participants through what can seem like a minefield of auditions, cold reads, and impossible copy. Her classes have consistently been well-reviewed and we look forward to every workshop with her!

Greg Stankevich

Founding EIF Voiceover Lab Administrator, Screen Actors Guild Foundation

Sara is extremely insightful, entertaining, patient, and generous. She will gracefully show you how to deliver a competitive read, help you discover where you fit in the marketplace, and guide you through the daunting process of creating a demo reel and finding representation. I highly recommend working with her.

Stephen Horst

Private Student and SAG VO Lab Class Attendee

Sara is a truly gifted voiceover coach. Her direction is clear and the difference it makes in the read is remarkable.  She is also one of the most generous teachers I have ever worked with. I would highly recommend her!

Rachel Errington

Group and Private Student

I’ve been working with Sara Krieger and she is honestly an amazing coach. Very clear direction, supportive, reliable, professional, very knowledgeable, funny, and no BS.  I honestly can not say enough great things about her or her coaching style. She is exactly what everyone should strive to find in a mentor. Absolutely top-notch.

Tracey Rose

Actor/Private Student

Sara Krieger is the best thing that could’ve happened to my VO career!! Not only is Sara possibly the most delightful person to coach with, she’s also the most qualified. Sara teaches voiceover as a craft, the way it should be taught. The way she teaches sticks with you, so when you are on your own, you can put everything you do with her into practice.

Some FAQs About Coaching:

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
How long will I need to study before I can work?

This varies with each individual student. It’s important that you trust your instincts as well as the process. You will know when you are at a truly professionally competitive level. In other words, when you can pick up a piece of copy, understand what the copy demands, can deliver it effectively in one take along with an alternate read. My job as a teacher is to get you to a completely independent and self-sufficient place.

What happens in the first private session?

Attention will be paid to understanding how copy is constructed, as well as what the copy writer and the client are trying to achieve. Our focus for the first session will be on getting the building blocks of good copy reading in place.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
What happens in subsequent private sessions?

We will work on how to fully understand and deliver copy, how to perfect the “cold read”, how to take and execute direction and make it personal, as well as how to self direct. We will also work on copy that is personally suited to you and where you fit in the marketplace. (This is also a significant piece when working towards creating a professional demo.)

What’s the benefit of semi-private coaching?

This allows each student the ability to not only work with and off of another actor, but to also gain some perspective by observing another student’s individual process.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
How will a group class benefit me?

Group classes are encouraged for voice actors who are just starting out or who are at an intermediate level. It is often extremely helpful for an individual to work with, as well as observe how other actors approach the work. This often opens up ways of thinking and processing that deepens the individual voice actor’s experience.al process.

What can I gain from a large group seminar?

Seminars can be very useful for people who are new to voiceover and can allow them to gain a basic understanding of the business, as well as the process required to be a working voice actor. Seminars can also provide a platform for more experienced voiceover artists to ask questions, deepen their understanding in a particular area and to further master the business.

How long will I need to study?

This is an individual choice, and can only be made by you. You will know when you no longer need coaching to understand the intricacies of doing voiceover work. However, it’s always a good idea to check in to “keep your chops up”.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
How long will it take before I can become a working voice actor?

There is no pat answer to this question. Each and every student is different and unique in their natural abilities, their needs, and their innate talent. (A student’s focus should not be on “how soon” but on “how good”.)

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
When should I make a demo?

When you are at a professional and competitive level, and when you fully understand where you fit in the marketplace. Your demo is your professional calling card and will represent you for several years. This is one of the largest investments you will make in your voiceover career. Bear in mind that anyone can be “made to sound good” in a studio and on a demo, but if you cannot produce a solid performance in real time, then the demo does you no good and will actually work against you. One of the biggest mistakes that I see beginning voice over artists make is recording a demo before they are professionally ready. Take your time- and understand your market- it’s worth it!
